An ash tree decorated with several thousand keys is located in Panevezys. It is no accident that the keys started hanging on this tree. After the excavations, a box with seventy keys was found near the ash tree, so they were all locked together. According to historians, keys in ancient times had more than just a practical meaning for people. So-called symbolic keys are still found. They were not made to lock locks, but hung in a visible place of the house as a kind of family protection, a protective amulet. The tree of keys is now of great interest to newlyweds, who no longer hang locks on bridges, but come to Birutė street to hang keys, believing that this will bring good luck.
