An investigation has been launched into the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl in the Ketu area of the state, says the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hunydeyin.

The three women and a man were said to have attempted to abduct the girl, but were found out and almost lynched.

But for the intervention of the Police, the suspects would have been beaten to death.

A viral video showed the women and man stripped and being marched along the road.

The suspects were followed by a motley crowd and flogged repeatedly.

Hundeyin, while confirming the rescue and arrest of the suspects, identified them as Kehinde Ashaolu 64; Bisola Olaitan 58; Alira John 45; and Adegbenga Adeyemi, 61.

Before Police got involved in the matter, a social media user had alerted Nigerians thus: “Today at Mr Biggs Bus Stop along Ikosi Road Ketu around 2:PM, four kidnappers were caught.

“Two escaped but were later caught trying to escape through the gate leading to Ketu Fruit Market. On getting there they found that the gate was locked.

“The information gathered was that they tapped the girl’s chest and she started following them.

“The person that knows the girl noticed and called her by her name but she did not answer.

“At that point, the person alerted those at the garage and the suspected kidnappers were apprehended.

“They tore their clothes and beat them mercilessly.

“The Nigeria Police later came with their van and took them away.”

Reacting, Hundeyin said: “On 28th of September 2022, at about 3:PM, information was received that three females and a male, later identified as Ms. Kehinde Ashaolu 64, Ms. Bisola Olaitan 58, Ms. Alira John 45 and Adegbenga Adeyemi, 61.

“They were suspected to be child abductors and accosted a 10 years old girl, Oruman Serah, along Ikosi Road and dispossessed her of her valuables.

“They attempted to abduct and forcibly take her to an unknown destination, but in the process, some angry people who sensed their criminal intention challenged and beat them thoroughly.

“Based on the report, teams of policemen were mobilised to the scene.

“The victim was rescued, while the suspects were taken into protective custody.

“Meanwhile, a discreet investigation into the matter has been initiated and progressing.”
