Praise, Prayer and Confession all in His Names

A name is a word or phrase that presents the unique description of a person or things. They communicate the important nature and character of a person more than just differentiating one person from another. In Scripture, a person’s name identified him and stood for something specific. This is extremely true of God. Naming carried special meaning. It was a sign of authority and power. This is obvious in the fact that God revealed His Names of people. This is also seen in the fact that God often change the names of His people: Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel and Saul to Paul.

In Christianity, the names of God represent the idea of the Godly nature, the character and the relationship of God to His people.

Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I. (Isa 52 vs 6)

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; them will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. [ 2ch. 7 vs 14].

We know what God is like, not only by His perfections and works, but also by His Names. There names were given to help people in times of great need. The various situations which bring forth each of the names of God is important as they tell us many things about God’s care and concern for his own. There are some of the motivating Scripture:

READ  Israel Urged to Serve God

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous rurnneth into it, and is safe. (Pro18 vs 10)

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and Earth. (Psa. 124 vs 8)

The called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. (Psa. 116 vs 4).

Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered. (Joel2vs 32).

When we speak in His name, we represent our Lord and King. He is speak for Him. His Names also remind us who we are in Him. He in our Father and we are His sons and daughters. He lives His life in us and shares everything with us in His Name. Knowing His Names opens the door of our hearts to all that He longs to give us in Himself.

The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein . (Psa. 69:36).

God’s name is very important. He always intended for his people to use his name in a fearful, respectful and honoring way.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.(Deut. 5 vs 11).

If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, the Lord thy God; ( Deut28 vs 58).

Teach me thy way, o Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.(psa. 86 vs 11).

  1. It’s tough coming across information on this theme that is very well-written, easy to read and also simple to grasp. This is actually why I personally felt moved to place a remark here to let you know this really is fantastic.
